Our Mission
To recreate sports for individuals with physical, intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and provide an opportunity to play, regardless of their abilities.
Who We Are
The Buddy Ball Athletic League began in Montgomery County, headed up by Larry Wallace in 2001, which means this year marks our 23rd anniversary!
Our league is open to adults and children 3 years and older with physical, intellectual and/or developmental disabilities who want to play organized, non-competitive sports. We offer at least three sports seasons each year – basketball, bowling and baseball. Additional sports are added when funding allows. We also offer special events such as an annual Buddy Ball Prom and a Christmas Party.
Bikers Who Care provided the seed money that originally started the league and have remained consistent supporters of Buddy Ball to this day. We operate solely on donations from local businesses, civic organizations and individuals in our community. All sports and events we offer are free of charge to anyone who participates.
A “Buddy” is someone who supports our athletes to be able to enjoy all aspects of the games that they may not have the opportunity to do in a competitive sports league. They may assist athletes in swinging a bat and rounding bases, catching a ball, or cheering on a shot at the basket.
Buddy Ball is a subsidiary of Progressive Directions, Inc., a charitable nonprofit organization that provides services to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities helping them attain personal success through gaining pride, dignity, and independence. PDI supports over 1,000 people in 12 counties in Tennessee.
